The SPOOLOGIC SL-100-084 is a brand new, direct drop-in Stage 1 performance turbocharger for 2003-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 5.9L Cummins common-rail (24-valve). One part number, one turbo — it fits both the early HE341CW trucks (2003-early 2004) and the later HE351CW trucks (2004.5-2007), so there’s no guessing which platform you have. Built with a larger 63.5/88/94mm billet compressor wheel, a 76/64mm 10-blade extended-tip turbine wheel, a SPOOLOGIC billet wastegate actuator, and a ceramic-coated hot side — a meaningful step up over the factory turbo in every direction.
It’s the right turbo for 5.9L Cummins owners who have moved past stock and want real airflow headroom — daily drivers running a tune, tow rigs that need more margin, and owners planning larger injectors down the road.
⚠ CUSTOM TUNING RECOMMENDED
Custom tuning is highly recommended to get the full potential out of this turbo. The SL-100-084 will physically bolt up and run on the factory tune because it’s built on the same HE341CW/HE351CW platform as your OEM turbo — but the factory calibration is written for the factory wheels. It does not know how to take advantage of the larger billet compressor, the 10-blade extended-tip turbine, or the billet wastegate actuator. You leave a meaningful amount of airflow, response, and top-end on the table without a tune.
To unlock what this turbo was built to do, plan on a custom tune from a qualified 5.9L Cummins tuner. SPOOLOGIC does not supply, write, sell, or assist with custom tunes — please line up your tuning shop before the install if you want the truck to perform the way this turbo was designed to.
Power Support
The SL-100-084 is built to cleanly support up to ~475-500 rwhp when paired with proper tuning, fueling, and supporting modifications. Remember: a turbo doesn’t make power on its own — tuning and fueling make power, and the turbo’s job is to support what the engine is producing. The Stage 1 is sized to keep up with mild-to-moderate tunes, larger injectors, and supporting mods without surging, choking, or overspeeding.
63.5/88/94mm Billet Compressor Wheel
The Stage 1 steps up to a 63.5/88/94mm 7+7 billet aluminum compressor wheel — CNC-machined from a solid billet, dramatically stronger than the factory cast wheel and capable of moving far more air. Sized to feed a moderately built 5.9L without losing the off-idle drivability of a factory frame turbo.
- Inducer: 63.5mm
- Exducer: 88mm base / 94mm extended-tip outer diameter
- Blade design: 7+7 splitter blade
- Material: 5-axis CNC-machined forged billet aluminum
- Balance: High-speed VSR balanced as part of the complete CHRA assembly
76/64mm 10-Blade Extended-Tip Turbine Wheel
The turbine wheel is sized to match the bigger compressor — a larger 76/64mm 10-blade extended-tip design for better top-end flow and exhaust evacuation, without choking the engine at higher airflow.
- Inducer: 76mm
- Exducer: 64mm
- Blade count: 10, extended-tip
- Balance: High-speed VSR balanced as a complete rotating assembly
Ceramic Coated Turbine Housing & Center Section
SPOOLOGIC ceramic coats both the turbine housing and the center section (CHRA). This isn’t high-temp paint — it’s a true thermal barrier rated for the 1,600°F+ surface temperatures a diesel turbine sees under sustained load. The real, measurable benefits:
- Drops turbine housing surface temps 33-50% — far less radiant heat dumped into the engine bay, which protects wiring harnesses, oil lines, hoses, and EGR components from long-term heat damage
- Reduces post-shutdown heat soak into the CHRA and bearing oil — the #1 cause of premature turbo failure is oil baking on the bearing journals after shutdown, and the coating interrupts the radiant feedback loop that causes it
- Retains exhaust energy in the gas stream — keeping heat in the exhaust where it belongs (driving the turbine wheel) instead of soaking into the housing
- Corrosion and thermal-fatigue resistant — cast iron scales, pits, and cracks over years of heat cycling; the ceramic barrier protects the housing for the long haul
Sliding-Nozzle VGT & Billet Wastegate Actuator
The Stage 1 runs a fully internally-wastegated housing with a SPOOLOGIC billet aluminum wastegate actuator — modeled after the proven Turbosmart IWG75 design. Billet aluminum housing, a larger diaphragm working area for more precise boost control, a silicone Nomex diaphragm built to take real under-hood heat, a stainless steel rod and clevis, and a heavier wastegate spring for higher peak boost and stronger mid-range. On 2004.5-2007 HE351CW trucks, the factory electronic wastegate control solenoid is deleted — the billet actuator handles boost control mechanically instead. A SPOOLOGIC wastegate solenoid harness jumper plug is included so the ECM stays satisfied and no check engine light is triggered.
- Actuator: SPOOLOGIC billet aluminum, silicone Nomex diaphragm, stainless rod and clevis
- Electronic wastegate solenoid: Deleted on HE351CW applications, jumper plug included
- Boost control: Fully mechanical, heavier spring for higher peak boost
Upgraded Internals — Standard
Every SPOOLOGIC turbo is assembled with upgraded internal components that go beyond a basic factory-style replacement:
- Extreme duty journal bearings — premium bronze-alloy bearings machined to tighter tolerances with improved oil groove geometry, maintaining the precise oil film that keeps the turbo shaft centered at 100,000+ RPM — even under higher heat and shaft loads
- 360-degree thrust bearing — added strength and load capacity over the factory 270-degree bearing, better at handling boost-driven thrust loads
- Step gap seal rings — improved sealing performance, less blow-by past the CHRA
- High-speed VSR balancing — smooth, dependable operation and longer bearing life
Bulletproof Bottom End, Bulletproof Fuel System
The 5.9L Cummins block, rods, and CP3 injection pump are famously overbuilt — the factory bottom end holds up to roughly 750 crank horsepower before it becomes the limiting factor. On this platform, the turbo and fueling are the ceiling, not the engine internals. That headroom is exactly why the Stage 1 makes sense here: the airflow upgrade gives the tune and fuel system somewhere to go without the engine itself being the bottleneck.
Recommended Supporting Mods
The Stage 1 is built for trucks that have already taken at least the first step into the modified world. To get the most out of this turbo and keep everything running clean, we recommend:
- Custom tune — A custom tune, or at minimum a quality canned tune, is required to make use of the bigger compressor and turbine
- Larger injectors — Stock injectors will run out of fuel before the SL-100-084 runs out of breathing room
- Intercooler upgrade — More airflow means more heat — keeps IATs and EGTs in check during sustained pulls or towing
- OCR / boost fooler — Recommended if boost exceeds the factory MAP sensor’s expected range
