The SPOOLOGIC Turbo Install Kit SL-300-001 is the complete hardware, clamp, gasket, and O-ring kit for swapping the turbocharger on 1994-1997 7.3L Powerstroke trucks — everything you’ll break loose at the turbo in one box. Built with stainless V-band clamps, multi-layer steel gaskets, and OE-spec yellow pedestal O-rings so the seal you put back is at least as good as what came out. Backed by a 1-Year Limited Warranty.
Every part in this kit is single-use by design. MLS gaskets crush down to the exact roughness of the flange on first torque, pedestal O-rings take a permanent compression set the moment you install them, and V-band clamps stretch after the first heat cycle. Reusing any of them is the #1 cause of post-turbo-job leaks — that’s why we built the whole kit around one-and-done, install-it-right hardware.
Common Turbo R&R Failure Symptoms
- Exhaust leak or tick after turbo swap — reused MLS gasket at the turbo flange or up-pipe joint that already crushed on the previous install.
- Oil weeping onto the turbo housing — pedestal O-rings that took a compression set and can’t seal the oil supply passage anymore.
- Boost leak, slow spool, or lean AFR — stretched V-band clamp at the compressor outlet or downpipe that can’t hold even clamp load.
- Bolt backed out or snapped at torque — reused turbo, pedestal, or flange hardware with stretched threads or a deformed underhead.
Why You Replace All of This — Not Just the One That’s Leaking
Turbo R&R hardware and seals are not designed to be reused. Here’s what’s actually happening to the parts you’re tempted to put back:
- Multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets — stacked thin steel sheets bonded with an elastomer coating. On first torque-up the layers crush down to mate the exact surface roughness of the flange. Once crushed they cannot crush again to a new surface. Reused MLS gaskets are the #1 cause of post-turbo-job exhaust leaks at the flange.
- Yellow pedestal O-rings — the four O-rings that seal the turbo pedestal against the oil and coolant passages take a permanent compression set the moment they’re installed. A leak here drops engine oil onto the hot turbine housing.
- V-band clamps — once heat-cycled and torqued to spec, the band stretches and the T-bolt threads gall. Reusing a stretched V-band means you can’t get even clamp load — that’s an exhaust or boost leak waiting to happen.
- Bolts and studs — the hardware that holds the turbo, up-pipes, and drain line lives in the hottest part of the engine. Threads stretch, heads warp, and the underhead bearing surface deforms. New hardware is cheap insurance.
Component Breakdown — What Each Piece Seals
- 1 compressor housing outlet clamp — secures the compressor housing outlet to the boost tube going to the intake.
- 1 turbo downpipe clamp — V-band clamp that secures the turbine housing outlet to the downpipe.
- 1 turbo flange gasket — multi-layer steel gasket between the turbocharger inlet flange and the up-pipe.
- 1 turbo outlet gasket — multi-layer steel gasket between the turbine housing outlet and the downpipe joint.
- 4 yellow turbo pedestal O-rings — seal the oil supply, oil drain, and coolant passages where the turbo pedestal mounts to the block.
- 4 turbo-to-pedestal bolts — hold the turbocharger to the pedestal.
- 4 pedestal-to-block bolts — hold the pedestal assembly to the engine block valley.
- 4 turbo flange bolts — fasten the turbo inlet flange to the up-pipe joint.
Material Technology — Why Each Material Was Chosen
- Multi-layer steel (MLS) construction — the up-pipe, turbo flange, and pedestal gaskets are MLS, not composite. MLS uses three or more thin steel layers with an elastomer coating, each layer free to flex independently as the joint grows and shrinks with heat. This is the construction that survives thermal cycling on the hot side of the turbo.
- Yellow fluoroelastomer pedestal O-rings — high-temperature fluoroelastomer rated for continuous oil and coolant service.
- Stainless V-band clamps — stainless steel band and T-bolt construction so the clamp can take repeated heat cycles without losing tension or galling at the fastener.
- Heat-treated hardware — the turbo, up-pipe, downpipe, and drain-line bolts and studs are heat-treated to the OE grade specification so they handle the clamp load without stretching or backing out.
Install Notes
- Do not reuse any gasket, O-ring, clamp, washer, bolt, or stud in this kit — every piece is single-use by design.
- Clean every mating surface before installing the new gasket. MLS gaskets cannot bridge over carbon deposits, machining burrs, or old gasket material. A razor scraper and brake clean is the minimum.
- Follow the OE service manual torque specs and sequence — turbo, pedestal, and flange bolts have specific torque values and tightening sequences. Don’t guess.
- Inspect the sealing surfaces on the turbo, manifold, and up-pipe flanges for cracks or warpage before reinstalling.
- Inspect the pedestal sealing surface for cracks or warpage before reinstalling — the O-rings cannot seal a damaged surface.
