The SPOOLOGIC Turbo Install Kit SL-300-005 is the complete twin-turbo R&R kit for 2008-2010 6.4L Powerstroke trucks — up-pipe gaskets, the HP-to-LP crossover seal, drain seals, feed seal, downpipe gasket, pedestal gasket, crush washers, and the up-pipe mounting hardware in one box. Built to Ford OEM 8C3Z-9T514-C kit content. Backed by a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

Every part in this kit is single-use by design. MLS gaskets crush down to the exact roughness of the flange on first torque, oil feed and drain gaskets take a permanent compression set the moment you install them, and V-band clamps stretch after the first heat cycle. Reusing any of them is the #1 cause of post-turbo-job leaks on the compound-turbo system — that’s why we built the whole kit around one-and-done, install-it-right hardware.

Common Turbo R&R Failure Symptoms

  • Exhaust leak or tick after turbo swap — reused MLS gasket at the high- or low-pressure turbo mounting joint that already crushed on the previous install.
  • Oil weeping onto the turbos — oil feed or oil drain gaskets that took a compression set and can’t seal engine oil at temperature.
  • Boost leak or slow spool — a leaking compound-turbo transition pipe gasket or a stretched V-band on the downpipe.
  • Bolt backed out or snapped at torque — reused turbo mounting hardware with stretched threads or a deformed underhead.

Why You Replace All of This — Not Just the One That’s Leaking

Turbo R&R hardware and seals are not designed to be reused. Here’s what’s actually happening to the parts you’re tempted to put back:

  • Multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets — stacked thin steel sheets bonded with an elastomer coating. On first torque-up the layers crush down to mate the exact surface roughness of the flange. Once crushed they cannot crush again to a new surface. Reused MLS gaskets are the #1 cause of post-turbo-job exhaust leaks at the flange.
  • Primary-to-secondary crossover seal — the green O-ring that seals between the HP and LP turbos. The OE seal hardens and cracks from heat — a leak here is a boost leak between the two turbos that scrambles boost control.
  • O-rings and rubber seals — take a permanent compression set the moment they’re installed. A used O-ring that looks fine has lost most of its sealing pre-load and will not seal a second installation reliably.
  • Crush washers — work by plastically deforming on first torque. A used crush washer is a flat washer. It cannot seal high-pressure oil at the turbo feed banjo.
  • Bolts and studs — the hardware that holds the turbo, up-pipes, and drain line lives in the hottest part of the engine. Threads stretch, heads warp, and the underhead bearing surface deforms. New hardware is cheap insurance.

Component Breakdown — What Each Piece Seals

  • 2 up-pipe to turbo gaskets — MLS gaskets that seal the left and right up-pipes to the LP turbo inlet.
  • 1 primary (HP) turbo oil drain seal — seals the high-pressure turbo drain to the valley.
  • 1 secondary (LP) turbo oil drain seal — seals the low-pressure turbo drain to the valley.
  • 1 turbo oil feed line seal — seals the oil feed line to the HP turbo.
  • 1 primary-to-secondary turbo crossover seal — the green O-ring that seals the air passage between the HP and LP turbos.
  • 1 turbo outlet / downpipe gasket — seals the LP turbine outlet to the downpipe.
  • 2 oil feed banjo copper crush washers — seal the high-pressure oil feed banjo bolt at both ends of the supply line.
  • 6 up-pipe to turbo mounting bolts — hold the up-pipes to the LP turbo inlet.
  • 1 turbo pedestal gasket — seals the pedestal-to-block joint. Install only if the pedestal is removed.

Material Technology — Why Each Material Was Chosen

  • Multi-layer steel (MLS) construction — the up-pipe, turbo flange, and pedestal gaskets are MLS, not composite. MLS uses three or more thin steel layers with an elastomer coating, each layer free to flex independently as the joint grows and shrinks with heat. This is the construction that survives thermal cycling on the hot side of the turbo.
  • Green Viton crossover seal — the HP-to-LP crossover O-ring is high-temp Viton rated for 400°F continuous service so it survives between the two turbos.
  • Copper crush washers — soft copper plastically deforms on first torque to fill the irregular surface between banjo bolt, banjo, and turbo housing. Copper plastically deforms predictably without work-hardening and tolerates the heat.
  • Heat-treated hardware — the turbo, up-pipe, downpipe, and drain-line bolts and studs are heat-treated to the OE grade specification so they handle the clamp load without stretching or backing out.

Install Notes

  • Do not reuse any gasket, O-ring, clamp, washer, bolt, or stud in this kit — every piece is single-use by design.
  • Clean every mating surface before installing the new gasket. MLS gaskets cannot bridge over carbon deposits, machining burrs, or old gasket material. A razor scraper and brake clean is the minimum.
  • Follow the OE service manual torque specs and sequence — turbo, pedestal, and flange bolts have specific torque values and tightening sequences. Don’t guess.
  • Inspect the sealing surfaces on the turbo, manifold, and up-pipe flanges for cracks or warpage before reinstalling.
  • The pedestal gasket is included for completeness — install it if you break the pedestal loose from the block. If the pedestal stays in place, set the gasket aside.
