The SPOOLOGIC 1.15 A/R Turbine Housing SL-250-005 is an OEM Econoline-sourced ductile iron turbine housing for the GTP38 turbo on 1999-2003 7.3L Powerstroke applications. The 1.15 A/R is bigger than the 1.0 and significantly bigger than the 0.84 factory F-Series housing — it is the maximum-flow option in the GTP38 turbine housing family. This is also a non-wastegated housing pulled from the 7.3L Econoline van platform, which means there is no internal wastegate puck and no actuator port. Includes a SPOOLOGIC-fabricated outlet adapter that converts the Econoline outlet pattern to the F-Series and Excursion downpipe pattern so this Econoline housing bolts up to a Super Duty or Excursion downpipe.
Econoline-Sourced Non-Wastegated 1.15 A/R
Ford ran a 1.15 A/R non-wastegated turbine housing on the 7.3L Econoline platform. The pickup-truck GTP38 used a smaller 0.84 A/R housing with an internal wastegate to manage boost — the van housing went the opposite direction with more A/R and no wastegate at all. That makes this housing the most exhaust flow available in the GTP38 family. Without the wastegate puck and bypass passage robbing flow, every bit of exhaust gas passes through the turbine wheel. The trade-off is that boost ceiling has to be controlled by tune, fueling, and the rest of the air-side setup rather than by a wastegate bleed.
What the Outlet Adapter Does
The Econoline turbine housing outlet does not bolt up to the F-Series or Excursion downpipe — the bolt pattern and clocking are different from the pickup platform. SPOOLOGIC machines a dedicated outlet adapter that sandwiches between the Econoline housing's outlet and the F-Series/Excursion downpipe so the housing drops into a Super Duty or Excursion chassis with no exhaust modifications. Without this adapter the housing will not fit a pickup truck.
Performance Benefits of the 1.15 A/R Non-Wastegated Housing
The combination of a bigger A/R and no wastegate flow loss makes this the lowest-drive-pressure housing available for the GTP38. On a built, fueled 7.3L the gains over even a 1.0 A/R wastegated housing are measurable:
- Maximum exhaust flow through the turbine — no wastegate passage, no bypass, no flow loss
- Lowest drive pressure of any GTP38 housing — drive-to-boost ratio drops further than a 1.0 A/R, which means less backpressure trying to push exhaust out of the cylinders
- Significantly lower EGT under sustained heavy load — typically 250-400°F cooler than a stock 0.84 housing at the same boost and load
- Top-end pull keeps building past 3000 RPM where smaller housings choke
- Big airflow headroom for hot tunes, big injectors, and built bottom ends — the housing is not the restriction anymore, the fuel and tune are
- Common upgrade for compound twin-turbo low-pressure side use because the bigger A/R suits being fed exhaust from a high-pressure turbo upstream
When You Should Use a 1.15 A/R Non-Wastegated Housing
The 1.15 A/R non-wastegated is a purpose-built housing, not a general upgrade. It is the right choice if you:
- Run a built or heavily fueled 7.3L making 450+ horsepower at the rear wheels
- Pull heavy or sled pull and need every degree of EGT relief the housing can give you
- Are running a compound twin-turbo setup and need a big low-pressure housing
- Race or drag the truck and live above 2500 RPM under power — the housing comes alive at high RPM
- Have a tune and fueling package that controls boost without relying on a wastegate
When You Should Not Use a 1.15 A/R Non-Wastegated Housing
This housing has real downsides on the wrong truck. Do not run the 1.15 A/R non-wastegated if:
- Your truck is stock, near-stock, or daily-driven — spool will be noticeably slower than even a 1.0 A/R, and the factory tune cannot use the extra airflow
- You commute or drive mostly below 2000 RPM — the housing takes longer to light and feels sluggish off idle
- You rely on a wastegate actuator to control boost — there is no wastegate port on this housing
- You want a stock-feeling truck with a bit more headroom — the 1.0 A/R is the better street/tow housing
- Your fueling and tune are not set up to control boost without a wastegate
Features
