Common Holset HY35W Failure Symptoms

If your 5.9L 24v Cummins turbo is showing any of these symptoms, a full rebuild is recommended:

• Wastegate actuator drift or stuck operation — overboost or underboost, inconsistent boost between runs
• Excessive shaft play or oil seal leakage — blue smoke at idle, oil residue in the intercooler piping, end-play beyond OEM tolerance
• Bearing failure — whining, grinding, or whistling that scales with RPM
• Loss of boost and reduced power — turbo not holding rated boost, sluggish acceleration, excess EGT
