SPOOLOGIC Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor

The SPOOLOGIC SL-600-001 Mass Air Flow Sensor is designed for 2003–2007 Ford Super Duty and 2003–2005 Excursion trucks equipped with the 6.0L Powerstroke. It supplies the airflow feedback the engine controller uses to evaluate fresh-air delivery and air-system operation.

MAF Sensor Operation

The MAF measures incoming fresh-air mass in the filtered intake tract. On the 6.0L Powerstroke, this information is particularly useful to EGR flow monitoring. A biased reading can disrupt air-management calculations, but poor performance or an EGR code alone does not establish a failed MAF.

Common MAF Sensor Fault Codes

• P0101: MAF range/performance: measured airflow does not agree with the PCM’s expected airflow.
• P0103: MAF circuit high input: inspect the sensor circuit and connector before replacing the sensor.
• P1102: MAF below the expected in-range minimum on applicable Ford calibrations.

Code availability varies by model year and calibration. A stored code identifies a condition to diagnose; it does not prove the component has failed.

Diagnose Before Replacing

Inspect the air filter, airbox seal, sensor connector, and intake ducting before replacement. Check for damaged terminals, wiring rub-through, oil contamination, and leaks downstream of the MAF. Compare live airflow with engine speed, load, boost, and EGR command instead of judging the sensor from a single idle reading. Check EGR operation when airflow is electrically valid but fails a plausibility test.

Installation Notes

Switch the ignition off before disconnecting the sensor. Keep the sensing element clean and untouched, install it in the correct airflow orientation, and seal the intake connections. After the repair, clear stored faults and complete any model-specific adaptation or verification procedure.
