The SPOOLOGIC V2S Low Pressure Turbine Shaft SL-240-007 is a complete factory-spec OE-design turbine shaft assembly — turbine wheel and shaft as one piece, ready to drop into a V2S Low Pressure Stage CHRA on 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke compound turbo system applications. Built to the original Ford / Holset / Garrett / IHI dimensions and balance specs — same wheel inducer, same exducer, same blade count, same shaft diameter, and same shaft length as the assembly it replaces. No machining or modifications required. This is the low-pressure stage turbine shaft — the larger of the two turbine assemblies in the 6.4L compound turbo system, mounted in the rear / big stage atmospheric turbo. It is not interchangeable with the high-pressure stage turbine shaft SL-240-008.
Turbine Shaft Specs
- Turbine inducer: 79.6mm (commonly listed as 80mm)
- Turbine exducer: 73.2mm (commonly listed as 73mm)
- Blade count: 10-blade
- Material: OE-spec Inconel turbine wheel, friction-welded to a hardened steel shaft
- Profile: OE factory-spec design
- Compressor thread: Left-hand (turns left to tighten against turbo rotation)
- Balance: Computer-balanced from the factory
Drop-In Replacement
This turbine shaft is built to the original V2S Low Pressure Stage footprint. It drops into the factory CHRA with the stock journal bearings, thrust bearing, seal rings, compressor wheel, and compressor housing. No machining, no housing modifications, no clearance changes required. Direct replacement for a turbine shaft with bent or damaged blades, worn shaft journals, a stretched compressor thread, or a friction-weld separation.
When to Replace the Turbine Shaft
- Bent, cracked, or rubbed turbine blades — usually from a turbo-bearing failure, foreign object debris, or over-speed
- Worn shaft journals — visible scoring or step wear from oil contamination or oil starvation
- Stretched or damaged compressor thread — common after a previous wheel removal with an impact gun
- Wobble or shaft play — measurable axial or radial play that doesn’t go away with new bearings and thrust
- Suspected friction-weld failure — rare but catastrophic, the turbine wheel parts ways with the shaft at high RPM
Installation Procedure
Standard procedure for installing the SL-240-007 in a V2S Low Pressure Stage CHRA:
- Remove the turbo from the truck, separate the turbine housing and compressor cover from the CHRA, and fully disassemble the CHRA
- Inspect all reusable parts (journal bearings, thrust bearing, seal rings, compressor wheel, shaft nut) and replace anything that doesn’t meet spec
- Clean every part with brake cleaner and compressed air — no lint, no debris, no old oil residue
- Slide the new SL-240-007 turbine shaft through the bearing housing, install new journal bearings and step gap seal rings as you go
- Install the thrust bearing and thrust collar per OEM stack-up
- Slide the compressor wheel onto the shaft, oriented with blades facing the inlet
- Apply a small drop of blue threadlocker to the shaft threads
- Thread the shaft nut on by turning counter-clockwise (left-hand thread) while holding the turbine wheel hub against rotation with a leather glove or soft-jaw method — never use an impact gun
- Torque to 10 ft-lb / 120 in-lb
- Verify shaft endplay and radial play are within OEM spec before reassembling the housing and cover
- Strongly recommended: take the complete CHRA assembly to a high-speed VSR balancer before reinstalling the turbo in the truck
