What This Clip Does

The EBPV system on the 1999.5-2003 7.3L Powerstroke uses engine oil pressure to close a butterfly valve inside the turbine outlet housing during cold starts, building exhaust back pressure to warm the engine faster and quiet cold-start noise. The pedestal-mounted hydraulic actuator drives a rod that connects to a lever arm on the outlet housing, and this retaining clip is the small sliding clip that locks that rod into the lever. Without the clip the rod separates from the butterfly and the EBPV stops functioning — no cold-start closure, no back pressure, no factory warm-up behavior.

When to Replace

• Any time the turbo is removed from the pedestal — the clip is pulled off to disconnect the EBPV rod

Materials & Construction

Heat-treated spring steel with a black oxide finish. Manufactured to the original Garrett dimensional spec so it drops into the OE lever arm slot without filing, bending, or persuasion. Black oxide resists rust in the valley environment under the intake plenum and matches the appearance of the surrounding OE hardware. Same profile, same spring tension, and same slide action as the factory clip.

Install Notes

Slide the clip onto the actuator rod, seat the rod end into the EBPV lever arm on the turbine outlet housing, then slide the clip toward the butterfly until it locks the rod in place. Give the clip a light pinch before installing to ensure a firm grip on the rod. To disconnect during a future turbo removal, slide the clip toward the driver's side to release. This clip is a component of the Garrett 702302-0002, Ford F81Z-6N653-BA, and Alliant AP63461 turbo installation kits — order this clip standalone when you are reusing your existing pedestal hardware but the clip itself is missing or damaged.

Every SPOOLOGIC retaining clip is covered by a 1-Year Limited Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Warranty coverage requires that the unit first be shipped back to SPOOLOGIC for inspection. If SPOOLOGIC determines the failure was caused by a defect in materials or workmanship, the retaining clip will be repaired or replaced at SPOOLOGIC’s discretion. Warranty does not cover labor, towing, downtime, consequential damages, failures caused by improper installation, failures caused by dirty or damaged mating surfaces, reuse of any included gasket, O-ring, or crush washer, or use outside the listed fitment.
