The SPOOLOGIC Turbo Install Kit SL-300-025 is the complete turbo R&R kit for 2017-2023 6.6L Duramax L5P and L5D trucks — every gasket and seal from the SL-310-027 gasket kit plus both upper and lower turbo oil drain lines, the turbo oil feed line, and the turbo-to-catalytic-converter V-band clamp. Built with multi-layer steel construction, green Viton fluoroelastomer, and coated steel oil-line gaskets. Backed by a 1-Year Limited Warranty.
Every part in this kit is single-use by design. MLS gaskets crush down to the exact roughness of the flange on first torque, oil feed and drain gaskets take a permanent compression set the moment you install them, and V-band clamps stretch after the first heat cycle. Reusing any of them is the #1 cause of post-turbo-job leaks — that’s why we built the whole kit around one-and-done, install-it-right hardware.
Common Turbo R&R Failure Symptoms
- Exhaust leak or tick after turbo swap — reused MLS gasket at the up-pipe or turbo mounting joint that already crushed on the previous install.
- Oil weeping onto the turbo — oil feed or oil drain gaskets that took a compression set and can’t seal engine oil at temperature.
- Boost leak or slow spool — a leaking turbo-mount gasket or a stretched V-band on the downpipe.
- Bolt backed out or snapped at torque — reused turbo mounting or up-pipe hardware with stretched threads or a deformed underhead.
Why You Replace All of This — Not Just the One That’s Leaking
Turbo R&R hardware and seals are not designed to be reused. Here’s what’s actually happening to the parts you’re tempted to put back:
- Multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets — stacked thin steel sheets bonded with an elastomer coating. On first torque-up the layers crush down to mate the exact surface roughness of the flange. Once crushed they cannot crush again to a new surface. Reused MLS gaskets are the #1 cause of post-turbo-job exhaust leaks at the flange.
- O-rings and rubber seals — take a permanent compression set the moment they’re installed. A used O-ring that looks fine has lost most of its sealing pre-load and will not seal a second installation reliably.
- Crush washers — work by plastically deforming on first torque. A used crush washer is a flat washer. It cannot seal high-pressure oil at the turbo feed banjo.
- V-band clamps — once heat-cycled and torqued to spec, the band stretches and the T-bolt threads gall. Reusing a stretched V-band means you can’t get even clamp load — that’s an exhaust or boost leak waiting to happen.
Component Breakdown — What Each Piece Seals
- 2 turbo oil supply line crush washers — copper crush washers that seal the high-pressure oil feed banjo bolt at both ends of the supply line.
- 1 turbo oil supply line gasket — seals the supply line transition at the turbo center section.
- 2 upper oil drain line gaskets — seal the drain line at the turbo center section.
- 1 lower oil drain line gasket — seals the bottom of the drain line at the block return.
- 1 PCV line to turbo gasket — seals the positive crankcase ventilation line at the turbo.
- 2 turbo coolant line gaskets (1 supply, 1 return) — seal the water-cooled center section coolant lines.
- 1 turbocharger to turbo pedestal gasket — MLS gasket between the turbocharger and the pedestal it sits on.
- 1 turbocharger to catalytic converter gasket — seals the turbine outlet to the cat.
- 2 intake plenum gaskets — seal the intake plenum to the cylinder heads.
- 2 throttle valve gaskets — throttle valve gaskets used across the application range. Install the one that fits your truck.
- 1 upper turbo oil drain line — new upper drain line, not just gaskets.
- 1 lower turbo oil drain line — new lower drain line.
- 1 turbo oil feed line — new high-pressure oil feed line.
- 1 turbo-to-catalytic-converter V-band clamp — V-band clamp at the cat joint.
Material Technology — Why Each Material Was Chosen
- Multi-layer steel (MLS) construction — the up-pipe, turbo flange, and pedestal gaskets are MLS, not composite. MLS uses three or more thin steel layers with an elastomer coating, each layer free to flex independently as the joint grows and shrinks with heat. This is the construction that survives thermal cycling on the hot side of the turbo.
- Green Viton fluoroelastomer O-rings and seals — high-temperature fluoroelastomer rated for 400°F continuous service. Standard nitrile O-rings would harden, crack, and leak within a few heat cycles in oil, coolant, or PCV service.
- Black coated oil-line gaskets — steel core with a bonded fluoroelastomer coating. The steel handles the bolt clamp load; the coating fills machining marks on the casting surface.
- Copper crush washers — soft copper plastically deforms on first torque to fill the irregular surface between banjo bolt, banjo, and turbo housing. Copper plastically deforms predictably without work-hardening and tolerates the heat.
- Stainless V-band clamps — stainless steel band and T-bolt construction so the clamp can take repeated heat cycles without losing tension or galling at the fastener.
Install Notes
- Do not reuse any gasket, O-ring, clamp, washer, bolt, or stud in this kit — every piece is single-use by design.
- Clean every mating surface before installing the new gasket. MLS gaskets cannot bridge over carbon deposits, machining burrs, or old gasket material. A razor scraper and brake clean is the minimum.
- Follow the OE service manual torque specs and sequence — turbo, pedestal, and flange bolts have specific torque values and tightening sequences. Don’t guess.
- Inspect the sealing surfaces on the turbo, manifold, and up-pipe flanges for cracks or warpage before reinstalling.
- The kit ships with two throttle valve gaskets — install the one that fits your specific application.
